多彩な才能で私達を常に楽しませてくれる女優であり、コメディアンヌ。力強い演技で私達を楽しませてくれる。時には「天使にラブソングを」のように、心の底から明るくしてくれ、「Kingdom Come」の時のように、全てを包み込む母親役で私達の心を和ませ、時には「カラーパープル」のようにおしとやかながらも力強い女性を演じて、心にしみる演技を見せてくれる。そう、私達の心にいつも何か残してくれる女優だ。

●● バイオ
ニューヨークで生まれたウーピー・ゴールドバーグは、そのキャリアを８歳にして地元の子供劇団にて始める。高校も地元の芸術高校に通い、その後はブロードウェイにて小さな役を得た。お芝居だけでは食べていけなかったゴールドバーグは、沢山の仕事を経験する。その頃に、サンディエゴに移り地元の劇団に入団する。西海岸地区で沢山の舞台に出るようになった時にコメディアンヌとしての訓練を受けた。一人舞台を始めると、その舞台が有名な映画監督マイク・ニコラス（「卒業」）の目に留まる。1984年に、ニコラスが監督した舞台で賞を受け、一躍人気者になった。
その時に映画に本格的にデビューしたのが、話題となった「カラーパープル」だった。その主人公、セリーを演じたゴールドバーグは、初主演映画でオスカーにノミネートという快挙を成し遂げた。
いくつかのキャリアの上下の波を経験し、そのプライベートが色々とゴシップの的となったが、1990年に「ゴースト」にて、オスカーの助演女優賞を獲得した。
現在も主演に助演にと大忙しだ。
