●● 熱き思い
彼が「カラーパープル」で見せた演技は、絶対に後々語り継いでいかなくてはならないほどの素晴らしい演技だった。アフリカ系アメリカ人男性としての威厳を保った素晴らしい演技。オスカーをはじめとする賞は、すべてそれらを無視したが、我々観客はそれを無視してはならない。「リーサルウエポン」でのコミカルな演技ばかりが、日本では注目されているが、彼の素晴らしさは沢山の映画で発見出来るので、是非彼の沢山の映画を見てもらいたい。
演技の面では、ポール・ウィンフィールドに続く、私が尊敬する人物。「3AM」でのパム・グリアーとの熟年カップルは、エンタテイメント性優れたチャーミングな演技。「フリーダムソング」では、若手のヴィセロアス・シャノン・レオンを支える素晴らしい演技、「ロイヤルテネンバウムス」では、ジーン・ハックマンをヤキモキさせる魅力的な男性だった。
また、彼が製作に加わった作品も、優秀な若手を使った素晴らしい作品が多いので是非見てもらいたい。

●● バイオ
カリフォルニアのサンフランシスコで生まれ育ったダニー・グローバーは、大学を地元のサンフランシスコ州立大に進み、その後に「American Conservatory Theatre」のブラックアクター・ワークショップで演技を学んだ。その頃のサンフランシスコはブラックパンサー党や、ブラックユニオン、ブラック・アーツ・ムーブメントが盛んで、グローバーも自然とそれらの活動に参加していた。80年代初期になってやっとオフ・ブロードウェイに出演するようになると、ようやく注目されるようになった。1982年にブロードウェイで「Master Harold' ... and the boys」の主役につくと、Theater World Awardを受賞した。その頃から、すこしずつ映画にも出演するようになり、1984年にサリー・フィールド主演の「プレイス・イン・ザ・ハート」で大役を掴み、注目されると、同じ年にスティーブン・スピルバーグの「カラー・パープル」、メル・ギブソンの相手役「リーサル・ウェポン」と立て続けに主役級の役につき、興行成績も成功を収め、ハリウッドのパワースターとして人気を得た。
「リーサル・ウェポン」のシリーズは4作とも、興行成績を成功させ、自身も映画プロデューサーとして、数々の映画を製作した。また、まだ無名だった新進監督チャールズ・バーネットの作品の主演を務めたり、自身が製作した映画では若手の俳優を使うなどもしている。
最近では、「ブラックパンサー映画祭」を開催したり、活動家としての発言も目だっている。
