実に奥ゆかしい演技をする女優。「Set It Off」では、監督のFゲイリー・グレイの演出も光るが、クイーン・ラティファのような曲者女優との最高のコンビネーションを見せた彼女の素質を感じる。今、デンゼル・ワシントンと対等に演技が出来る女優は、アンジェラ・バセットと、このキンバリー・エリスだろう。

●● バイオ
ミネソタ州出身のキンバリー・エリスは、地元のミネアポリスコミュニティカレッジで、映画制作の勉強を始め、ミネソタ大学にも通い、コミュニケーションの学位を取得した。地元のテレビ局でアシスタントディレクターをしていた事もある。その頃に短編映画を製作し、その１つの作品がThe American Film Instituteの目に止まり、監督のFellowshipを取得した。１９９５年頃からTVシリーズのゲスト出演で、女優デビューを果たし、翌１９９６年の「Set It Oｆｆ」では、映画デビューながら、ジェイダ・ピンケット、ヴィヴィカ・A・フォックス、クィーン・ラティファと並ぶ主役級の役を獲得。次のTV映画にて、「ケーブル・エース賞」の助演女優賞を獲得すると、オプラ・ウィンフィリーの「愛されし者」では、数々の賞を獲得。「ジョンQ」では、デンゼル・ワシントンの妻役を演じた。
