印象に非常に残る女優の一人。何と言っても「ため息つかせて」のグロリア役は非常に親しみやすくて印象に残った。その後の「天使の贈りもの」の役も、チャーミング。それでいて、「The Breaks」や「Funny Valentains」のような映画で、落ち着いた演技を見せてくれるのが、女優としての彼女の幅の広さを感じる。「Kingdom Come」でのダリアス・マックレーとの親子役が、コンビーネーション抜群で感動的だった。

●● バイオ
テキサス州ヒューストンで生まれたロレッタ・ディヴァインは、1970年代から舞台監督としてキャリアをスタートさせた。ブランディス大学でMFAを取得すると、NYの舞台でミュージカルデビューを飾った。 1977年に「Hair」でブロードウェイに進出して、トニー賞を含む数々の賞を獲得した「Dreamgirls」のローレル役のオリジナルキャストとして脚光を浴びた。その後も舞台で着々とキャリアを積み、有名なジョージ・C・ウルフの舞台などに立った。 1980年代に入ると映画やTVの仕事もするようになるが、舞台ほど脚光を浴びることはなく、小さな脇役止まりだった。 1995年の「ため息をつかせて」のグロリア役で、一躍注目の的になり、NAACPのイメージアワードで、助演女優賞を獲得。その後も、着々と「リバウンド」や「天使の贈りもの」等に出演し、有名なテレビプロデューサーのデビット・E・ケリーが手がける「ボストン・パブリック」のレギュラーを獲得した。
