父親がアメリカ黒人で母親がオランダ人の間に生まれたシーマー・ムーア。母親の下で育ち、5歳まではオランダで生活をしオランダ語を話していたという。6歳になって英語を学び、数学を教えていた母と一緒にバーレンで生活もしたことがある。ようやくカリフォルニアに落ち着き、カリフォルニアの高校と大学を卒業している。大学でコミュニケーションの学位を取得したムーアは、大学院に進む為に生活費を稼ぐ目的でモデルを始める。かなりエロティックなモデルもこなした結果、モデルとして人気になり、TVシットコムにゲスト出演するようになる。 1997年の「Hav Plenty」というインディペンデンス映画で映画デビュー。続いてシシリー・タイソンが主演のTV映画「Mama Flora's Family」にも出演。 1999年からは老舗のソープオペラ「The Young and the Restless」に出演して大人気となる。イメージアワードやソープオペラダイジェストアワード等にも受賞している。映画にも「The Brothers」や「Diary of a Mad Black Woman」にコンスタントに出演する傍ら、TVシリーズ「Criminal Minds」のレギュラー等もこなしている。
